RICHIE SUPA NOMINATED FOR BEST “MUSIC OR MUSIC VIDEO”
AT 15TH ANNUAL PRISM AWARDS
Legendary singer/songwriter’s “Last House on the Block” being recognized for its impact in helping to shed a light on substance abuse and mental health issues
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 14, 2011) – Legendary singer/songwriter Richie Supa has been nominated yet again for a PRISM Award in the category of “Music or Music Video” for his song, “Last House on the Block.” Released on iTunes in October 2010, Supa debuted and spoke about the making of the song and his personal journey to recovery on WWNN 1470 AM’s “Rockers in Recovery” show on October 17, 2010.
“God had control of the pencil on this one” said Supa. “This was an incredibly personal piece for me to produce. It is an honor to be recognized by the PRISM Awards for doing what I love – writing and performing music that not only touches people, but hopefully aides those in whatever struggles life may bring.”
The PRISM Awards, which are produced by the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) in collaboration with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and FX, honor actors, movies, music, media and television’s top shows that accurately depict and bring attention to substance abuse and mental health issues, including prevention, treatment and recovery. This year’s ceremony, which is set for April 28, 2011, will take place at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
In a press release issued by EIC, Brian Dyak, EIC President, CEO and Co-Founder states, “We are proud of our industry and the quality of the over 400 PRISM Awards submissions this year. Story telling about substance abuse and mental health concerns such as PTSD and suicide prevention is an important asset to public awareness about these issues. This year’s nominees truly represent powerful stories that can make a difference.”
Honorees are selected by an 80-person committee of entertainment industry professionals and technical experts from the fields of medicine, mental health, and addiction. In addition to the ceremony, a magazine format show will be telecast on flagship airing partner FX as well as National Geographic Channel, ReelzChannel, E! On Demand, and other networks, and will be featured at a special Capitol Hill Showcase in Washington, DC in September as a celebration of National Treatment and Recovery Month. Variety is a media partner for the PRISM Awards.

Your progress will depend on three essential ingredients: Honesty, open-mindedness, and willingness.
Understandably, the prospect of knowing yourself and being known for who you really are is frightening, and so it inspires a great deal of fear. The key is using honesty to see ourselves in the mirror. Then, you will need to be willing to accept genuine expressions of staff and peers of how you present yourself, and open-minded of their assessment both in your strengths and weaknesses.
Your community is your ally. Your reassurance lies in the fact that all of your peers have the same basic problems and they too are seeking freedom from addiction. Therefore, they are both deeply understanding and supportive of your efforts to find your way to freedom and discover the real you.
The more structure and support you have the better chance you have of remaining clean and sober.
