Cannatelli Builders

by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Aug.25, 2010, under Home

SUNRISE, Fla. – Cannatelli Builders is pleased to announced that its consortium partner, the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) in Lake Worth, has been awarded a federal grant worth $23.3 million for renovating homes in a targeted area. The grant is specifically meant for use in purchasing and refurbishing some 130 residential properties within the city center.

As part of the agreement, the CRA together with its 20 non-profit partners and contractors should spend the amount within a fixed period. Half of the money should be spent in a period of two years while all necessary purchases should be completed in three years time.

Lake Worth Mayor Rene Varela is grateful and enthusiastic over this development saying that although the project is quite ambitious, they are positive about doubling or even tripling the investment. He expressed confidence that more private capital will come in to this home makeover project. City Commissioner Scott Maxwell himself echoed the same sentiment.

One of the major reasons why Lake Worth acquired a huge grant from the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was due to its high rate of vacancy and foreclosures, a criteria covered under the agency’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program. The increase in the number of unoccupied and foreclosed homes was attributed mainly to the huge drop in home values at the height of the global recession last year.

In the target area alone where the CRA will focus its renovation efforts, there are currently 1,764 homes in place with about 130 of them in foreclosure and 206 in pre-foreclosure. However under the grant program, many of these properties will benefit from the rehabilitation works and many low income families will be able to acquire homes at a more affordable rate.

Specifically, the Lake Worth home makeover program has five objectives. These are to buy and rehabilitate 75 homes for resale; buying and renovating 25 properties for rentals; demolishing 10 homes that are no longer deemed in good condition; establishing a land bank of 30 lots that will eventually be developed into housing and providing incentives to law enforcement officers. The renovated homes and properties for resale and rentals will then go to buyers earning 50 percent and 120 percent or less of the median income in the area.

For their part, non-profit partner Adopt-a-Family of the Palm Beaches will sell homes to buyers eligible in its required income bracket while Habitat for Humanity plans to renovate homes and use some of the lots to build more new homes for people who meet certain income criteria.

The CRA’s executive director Joan Oliva also revealed their Cultural Renaissance Program still covered by the Lake Worth grant. This aims to bring in artists into the city as a way to encourage more business activities and maintain safe and sound neighborhoods.

As a consortium partner, Cannatelli Builders will be involved in the architectural design and construction process of the homes to undergo refurbishment. Being a trusted and proven contractor, the company is capable of managing all types of home remodeling projects putting emphasis always on the quality of their work.

THE ANTIDOTE FOR ADDICTION (1) « Holistic Lifestyles Radio

THE ANTIDOTE FOR ADDICTION (1)

by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Jun.01, 2010, under Home

Is there an antidote for addiction?

Yes! That’s the good news.

Here’s the bad news!

What if – you had to drive ten miles EVERY DAY to get the antidote?

Would you be willing to drive the ten miles?

Before saying “Yes, I want the antidote,” let’s explore this a little further.

You have to ask yourself, “How bad do I want it?”

This isn’t a trick question.

Addiction has its rewards.

Are you ready and willing to walk away from the “safety” of your solitary prison where you don’t have to – feel any pain – from the outside world; where you don’t have to grow, or change?

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. In starting our recovery journey, all we have to do is – take one step away from our solitary prisons – by “connecting” with people who have been where we are, people who will walk the journey of the thousand miles with us – every step of the way. Here’s the wisdom passed on to us the 100 original members of A.A.:

The tremendous fact – for every one of us - is that we have discovered a common solution.

We have found – a way out - from the slavery of addiction, on which we can absolutely agree, and upon which we can join in brotherly and harmonious action.

This is the great news the book, Alcoholics Anonymous, carries to those who suffer from addiction. (An appropriate title for the book could possibly be – The Antidote For Addiction – more than 150 Twelve Step Programs are built on its foundation)

Nearly all of us have – recovered. We have SOLVED the addiction problem.

The physical cravings, along with the obsessive thoughts and compulsive feelings to use pills, alcohol, or drugs, have been – removed.

They do not exist for us.

We are neither cocky, nor are we afraid.

This is our experience; this is how we react, so long as – we stay in fit spiritual condition. (A. A. Page 17, 85)

Today, make a fresh start. Read the Doctor’s Opinion. Renew – your spirit.

Namaste, (The light in me “honors” the light in you.)

Jack

Effective Supportive Treatments for Cancer By Dr. Jack Tobol

When a person hears the diagnosis of cancer of any type, it is sobering news. It's important to explore options for dealing with it. Western Medicine had made great advances in cancer treatment. There are also a number of alternatives that can be helpful in the healing process. Acupuncture and herbal medicine, for instance, prove to contribute positively to those facing cancer.

The primary ways that western medicine treats cancer include: surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Preventative measures include antioxidants, vitamins, good nutrition, and exercise. Avoiding sun exposure for skin related cancer and avoiding exposure to toxic substances is important. These western medical approaches are important and effective, but can be enhanced when other ways of strengthening the person's natural ability to heal are also used.

During cancer treatment, the supportive treatment of acupuncture and herbal medicine can:

Promote the healing of wounds and prevent the formation of scar tissue.

Enhance lymphatic flow to prevent lymphedema or treat nausea and vomiting.
-
Enhances the immune system to help maintain a good white blood cell count which may decrease with successive chemotherapy treatments.
-
Helps manage cancer related pain
-
Protect the organs, such as the heart, from cardiac toxicity due to the chemotherapy
-
Helps restore overall health which can prolong survival
-
Treat other diseases resulting from the cancer treatment or from the cancer itself.

The American Cancer Society, on its website, states, "Acupuncture is an effective treatment for nausea caused by chemotherapy drugs and surgical anesthesia."
Dealing with cancer requires strength and clarity of mind. Patients are dependent on their doctors and health care providers for advice and guidance throughout the process. Besides the treatment itself, the support and guidance of an experienced acupuncturist during a prolonged illness can be a great help.

Dr. Jack Tobol believes every person is unique and every patient requires a unique treatment. After an Initial Oriental Medical Examination, we determine what will be the most efficient and most effective treatment. At the Acupuncture Health Center of Coral Springs, we offer treatments that incorporate the major branches of Oriental Medicine:

• Acupuncture
• Chinese Herbal Medicine
• Diet and Eating Habits
• Massage
• Meditation
• Feng Shui and Lifestyle
• Acupuncture

Each treatment plan is individualized.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture treatment depends on the type of illness, its severity and duration, and the physical state of the patient at the time of treatment. A series of 5-10 treatments may provide relief care for some problems, but often chronic and degenerative conditions may require many treatments overtime. To help reduce the number of treatments, we may suggest dietary and life-style modifications, specific exercise regimens, relaxation techniques, self-massage, and/or Chinese Herbal Medicines, all of which help increase the efficacy of acupuncture.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

We use the highest quality herb granules available and compose individualized formulas for our patients.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal Medicine has been used as front line medicine by the majority of the world’s population since before recorded history, and is still the most widely utilized medical system in the world today. Adverse reactions to Chinese herbs are extremely rare and are negligible when compared to those commonly produced by pharmaceutical drugs.

Oriental Nutrition Counseling
We provide education on lifestyle and healthy eating modifications based upon the principles of Chinese Medicine.

Oriental Massage
Tui Na,the ancient art of acupressure massage designed to treat various conditions, is used when appropriate. The application of liniments and essential oils may be offered.

Healing Meditation Treatments and Workshops
We incorporate guided imagery and healing visualizations to help cultivate healthy breathing and healing internal energy.

Feng Shui Education
The placement of furniture and objects, the choice of colors and decor, all make up the ambiance of a room. Some rooms, some homes, some offices, just “feel” better than others. All of us have a psychological or emotional response to a room we enter. That is the perspective from which we view Feng Shui. Is the space in which we live or work healthy and conducive to feeling good? Does the flow of Qi (energy) in the space feel positive or negative? Sometimes, the lifestyle, living conditions, or working conditions of a patient may be counterproductive to the treatment. When appropriate we will make Feng Shui recommendations. The recommendation may be as simple as a dehumidifier in a basement home office, or a more thorough consultation if necessary.
