What can Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) do?

HBOT is an indicated therapy in a large and increasing number of recognized conditions like addiction. A list of currently accepted acute and adjunctive indications is indicated below.

It is however important to differentiate between HBOT as a primary and adjunctive therapy. In modern medicine, HBOT is accepted as the primary therapy in these conditions only: Decompression Illness, Gas Embolism, and Acute Anoxia, as for example in Carbon Monoxide poisoning. In other conditions, it does not replace existing forms of treatment but is an adjunctive therapy.

One of the more widespread clinical applications for HBO is that of wound healing. Current practice reserves HBO Therapy for conditions which have failed to respond to normal management techniques and it is considered unnecessary in simple well perfused wounds. Hypoxic and or ischemic wounds such as diabetic wounds, failing grafts and flaps, radiation necrosis, necrotizing soft tissue infections and refractory osteo-myelitis have all been shown to respond well to HBO Therapy. Indolent wounds, persisting and long-term surgical and medical protocols, have been resolved when HBOT has been used as an adjunctive therapy.

Used pre-surgically, HBOT is effective in establishing a vascular granulation base for grafting. It promotes neo-vascularization in order to define a clear demarcation line, maximizing limb salvage in prospective amputees.

To further support the validity of the therapy, current procedures involve measuring transcutaneous tissue Oxygen concentrations and laser doppler perfusion analysis.

In thermal burns, comparative analyses of HBOT vs. Non HBOT treated patients indicate significant increases in survivor rates due to the ability to control fluid losses and reductions in hospitalization times are achieved with the HBO group. The value of HBOT in dealing with Carbon Dioxide and Cyanide intoxication is well established, with evidence proporting to its efficacy in mitigating the effects of subacute and chronic sequelae# that follow exposure.

It is a cost effective means of dealing with difficult or persistent problems by reducing direct hospitalization costs, permitting greater utilization of patient facilities and minimizing the degree of disfigurement and disablement.

HBO is a vasoconstrictor, it therefore reduces edema: In all HBO treatments, raised arterial PO2 causes vaso-constriction, reducing blood flow and edema, while paradoxically improving Oxygen delivery to the tissues.

HBO promotes neovascularization: In compromised and ischemic wounds, impairment of the micro-circulation causes hypoxia. In hypoxic areas the Oxygen partial pressure could be as low as 2 mmhg, some fibroblasts can survive though inactive at this low PO2 level. However when the PO2 is elevated, by means of HBO to 20-30 mmhg fibroblasts divide producing collagen and new cappillaries (neovascularisation).

HBO enhances the killing power of Leukocytes: Leukocytes when deprived of Oxygen exhibit diminished activity and are unable to kill the organisms they normally ingest. Their activity and killing ability are greatly enhanced when blood Oxygen levels are elevated with HBO.

HBO Kills anaerobic bacteria: In certain circumstances HBO has a use in combating certain infections such as gas gangrene, by acting directly against anaerobic bacteria. Other types of infections have shown to be responsive to HBOT. Physicians must determine the type of infection (aerobic or anaerobic) prior to prescribing HBOT as a protocol.

Help Sandra Huffman sow a trail of mustard seeds to cultivate messages of hope, healing, and recovery to victims of Addiction/Abuse and Homelessness. “Sandra’s Walk” will begin on June 4, 2011 on the Fort Lauderdale beach. I plan to arrive in Washington, D.C. by September 2011 to participate in DC-based Recovery Month. Then on to activities such as PRO-ACT’s Recovery Walks in my Hometown of Royersford & Philadelphia plus surrounding areas during the entire month.

Sandra Huffman a Recovering Addict will be walking 1300 miles from Fort Lauderdale to Washington DC and then to Philadelphia to Celebrate National Recovery Month and Sandra’s 5 yrs of being Clean and Sober’’.

August 19th 1981 Sandra ran away from The Meridian Home for Girls in Royersford Pa to the Streets of Fort Lauderdale FL. June 4th 2011 with 5 years of being sober she will be Walking Home. Yes, most of the walk will have much to do with the Homeless; we are collecting the Hygiene Care Packages and will distribute them along the way. But sad to say that most of the people they will be reaching out to will be Abused Men, Women and Families of Alcoholics & Addicts. Sandra’s message is of Faith, Hope and Healing.

These are just a few of several different “Intuitive Inspirations” I have received while creating these 100% by hand….There are many more and you just don’t know what message you will get when you order.

I Believe in my Heart that you should not pick & choose just trust that the one you are sent is meant for you or whomever you are buying it for. When doing this in person I hold several in my hand and have someone pick a random cord…They usually end up crying when they read what it said…I hear a lot of Thank You’s but the messages do not come from me as I pray on each one as I am turning it over & over in my hand thinking of the person that may receive it…

So pick and choose if you like but think about taking that leap of Faith and just GOING FOR IT. $13.00 including shipping gives you one to keep and the other gets a tag that says “Please accept this gift from-”Your name”. Mark Stein of Vanilla Fudge

Rockers In Recovery and The East Coast Music Scene are pleased to announce our interview on Tuesday April 5th 2011 at 2 PM EST with Mark Stein of the 60’s rock group Vanilla Fudge. With the on set of The Vanilla Fudge Reunion Tour happening across the United States. It is our pleasure and honor to have Mark on as a guest. Listen Live on WWNN 1470 AM radio in South Florida or listen live at our streamer http://radio.securenetsystems.net/radio_player_large.cfm?stationCallSign=WWNN

Mark Stein is the lead vocalist, keyboardist, composer, and arranger of Vanilla Fudge. Mark first founded Vanilla Fudge in 1966 at the age of 18 with members Tim Bogert, Vinny Martell, and Carmine Appice. In the short time they were together the band enjoyed their first giant success with their first Atco album release self-entitled Vanilla Fudge.

The first album was a ground-breaking work since it was the first album to reach the top ten on Billboard’s charts without a hit single. The legendary rock arrangement of You Keep Me Hangin’ On became the band’s first hit single nearly two years after the release of the first album.

During the 1960’s the Fudge were one of rock’s most exciting, high-energy touring bands, setting the stage for the likes of Jimmy Hendrix, Deep Purple, and even Led Zeppelin. Through a total of five albums and the tireless touring, the legendary Vanilla Fudge influenced artists around the world with their inspired performances and unique musical interpretations. Bands like Yes, The Who, Deep Purple, and many others have credited Vanilla Fudge with having a profound effect on their music, and the overall musical renaissance of the late ’60s. The band’s influence is still felt even today.

After the demise of the Fudge in the spring of 1970, Mark took a hiatus from the ‘Rock Wars’ and decided he wanted to develop his writing and playing skills even further. After flirting with a solo career, he resurfaced with The Tommy Bolin Band in the mid 70’s. This was a highly regarded group that had the likes of Narda Michael Walden on drums, Reggie McBride on bass, Norma Jean Bell on sax, and Mark on keyboards and sharing vocals with the great Tommy Bolin. The Tommy Bolin Band was a high energy rock-fusion influenced band that attracted people like John McLaughlin, Jan Hammer, and Jeff Beck, to name a few, to come see the band play live. It was during this time that Mark made the transition from the Hammond B-3 organ to synthesizers. Mark toured and recorded with Bolin (then Private Eyes album), and left the Bolin band just prior to Tommy’s premature death.

After working on several writing projects, Mark joined Alice Cooper in the “Welcome To My Nightmare” show, and toured Australia and New Zealand. Upon his return to the states he hooked up with Dave Mason who produced Mark’s solo album on CBS Records in 1979. The album was never released, however. Mason then asked Mark to join forces with him and Mark toured and recorded with David for the better part of four years. Mark penned five tunes on Mason’s Old Crest On A New Wave album, and sang backing vocals with Michael Jackson on the track Save Me.

In 1983, Mark re-signed with Atlantic Records to do a Vanilla Fudge reunion album entitled Mystery, appearing once again as lead vocalist / keyboardist. In 1987 the Fudge did a three month U.S. tour, and recorded a ‘live’ album during some of those dates. The last time the band appeared live was at the Atlantic 40th Anniversary show May 14, 1988, at Madison Square Garden in New York.
