The Sound Pillow®…A holistic approach to relax the Mind,Body, and Spirit

THE PROBLEM

1. Not sleeping through the night, which guarantees a stress-full day.
2. Taking medication to get to sleep – where a high percentage of people get addicted to the medication or have unpleasant side effects such as - being drowsy or tired all day.

THE SOLUTION

The www.SoundPillow.com is like our bodies. If we eat foods filled with healthy nutrients, the food does wonderful things for our bodies. On the other hand if we eat foods that have little or no nutritional value, the food does very bad things to our bodies such has clog our arteries or start us down the diabetic track.

The “sound” that comes out of the Sound Pillow is as important as the “pillow” itself.

As an addiction counselor, one of the major challenges my new clients face is getting back into a normal sleeping pattern. One of my clients had a ten-year addiction to a drug her doctor prescribed to help her sleep. She was stressed out about staying awake all night. I gave her the Sound Pillow along with Prescription Audio’s – Nocturne - a sixty-minute symphony of sound and music that gently guides the brain to the deepest levels of relaxation. The next day she literally ran up to me when I arrived at work and told me that - for the first time in ten years - she not only had a sound nights sleep - without taking her sleep medication, but she also had a dream - the first time in many years.

I have worked with many alcoholics and addicts who were prescribed sleep medication upon being admitted for treatment, but came off the medication by using the Sound Pillow along with the Nocturne CD.

I believe every treatment center in the county would be doing their clients a great service if they provided the www.SoundPillow.com, along with the sound and music therapy programs offered by www.PrescriptionAudio.com

What Must We “Do” If We Want to Have Our Character Defects “Removed?”

If an alcoholic or addict fails to perfect and enlarge their “spiritual life” through:

Work – Meditation, and prayer,

Self-sacrifice – Taking time to help others they will not survive the certain trials and low spots ahead. If we do not work, we will eventually relapse, and if we continue to relapse, we will eventually die from our disease, or wish we were dead. (A.A. Page-15)

Many of us are “loners.” We often carry this trait into our recovery program. We go to meetings. On occasion, we read recovery literature. We may even have daily phone conversations with other alcoholics or addicts.

What’s missing here? Accountability! When we’re loners, we are not accountable to anyone. How can we solve this problem? We can solve this problem by first of all becoming “accountable” to ourselves. It would help to have a

RELAPSE PREVENTION BAROMETER to help us keep track of the progress we are making in our recovery.

I’ll provide you with this over the next few days, but before going any further, let’s define character:

WHAT IS CHARACTER?

The dictionary defines character as: “Moral or ethical strength; QUALITIES of honesty, integrity, or courage.

WHAT “QUALITIES” DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME AN “ADDICTION SURVIVOR?”

The same qualities it takes to win a Super Bowl, climb Mount Everest, start a business, get in good shape, etc.

1. Courage: The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty or pain without fear; bravery.

2. Commitment: To pledge, bind, or obligate one-self to achieve a goal; to burn the bridges of escape behind you.

3. Honesty: Freedom – from deceit or fraud, truthfulness, sincerity, or frankness.

4. Humility: Free from vanity, boastfulness, or grandiosity; not arrogant, a - realistic view - of one’s limitations.

5. Discipline: An exercise, regimen, or - series of steps - that improves one’s skill and control.

6. Fortitude: Strength of mind that enables one to endure temporary pain or adversity with courage.

7. Persistence: To persevere in spite of difficulty, discomfort, discouragement, or obstacles.

8. Forgiveness: The wisdom and courage to let go of anger or resentment toward oneself, or another; compassion.

9. Patience: Quietly and steadily persevering, bearing hardship, or discomfort with fortitude and calmness.

10. Altruism: Unselfish concern for the welfare of others.

11. Resilience: Springing back, rebounding; recovering from adversity.

12. Teamwork: Cooperative and coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal.

Namaste, (The light in me “honors” the light in you.

9PM EDT March 28,2010 Nancy A. Schenck Tails of Recovery: Addicts and the Pets That Love Them Live on Holistic Lifestyles Radio " Addiction Recovery"

Nancy A. Schenck has over twenty-one years of publishing experience. She spent ten years in New York working at Random House in the Trade Sales division, and then as a copywriter and Manager of Creative Services in the Children’s Publishing division. She moved to Los Angeles in 1998 and was editor of a magazine for a nonprofit organization. Nancy is the Executive Editor of Central Recovery Press and has worked for CRP since June 2005. “As a person in long-term recovery, I can think of no better job than to work in a field for which I have so much passion while helping to educate others about the devastation of the disease of addiction and the hope recovery offers. It is truly a dream job!”

Prior to following her passion for publishing and the written word, Nancy worked as a nurse for thirteen years in her hometown of New Orleans, LA and spent eight years working in pediatric emergency units. She has a BS in Literature Studies and Creative Writing from State University of New York/Empire State College.

Nancy is mother to one son and grandmother to one granddaughter. She and her partner, Tony, are the proud “parents” of Sophie, a lab mix they rescued in 2006. Her first book, Tails of Recovery: Addicts and the Pets That Love Them (Central Recovery Press, 2009) was written as part of the grieving process for her beloved dog, Happy, that she lost in a tragic event over forty years ago.

More info about Tails of Recovery: Addicts and the Pets That Love Them

Tails of Recovery: Addicts and the Pets That Love Them presents first-person accounts by people in recovery of the hope and healing that pets have provided to them. These stories are tied together with insightful commentary by author Nancy Schenck, herself a long-time pet lover and person in long-term recovery. Tails of Recovery is for anyone—in recovery or not—who wants to experience the deep and spiritual connectedness that the love of a pet provides to those in need.

In a recent review of Tails of Recovery, The Journal of Addictive Diseases hails the book as being “put together nicely, seasoned with personal anecdotes, photos, and short but factual articles on the many aspects of “pet therapy” and companions. Better yet, Schenck has clearly succeeded in transcending her grievous loss by putting together a brief but highly effective book that will help thousands of others who struggle with addiction, loneliness, and lovelessness. Those who work with drug-dependent individuals will find this a pleasant reminder that therapy and the road back to health sometimes includes unconditional love, such as freely offered by man’s (and woman’s) best friend.”

ACUPUNCTURE HELPS ADDICTS STICK TO RECOVERY

ACUPUNCTURE HELPS ADDICTS
STICK TO RECOVERY
People trying to move away from addictions to drugs and alcohol face
a very difficult task. However, by adding Acupuncture to detoxification
treatment, many are learning that it is easier to stick with their program and find the successful road out.
One such success came out of a one-year study conducted in Portland, Oregon, where individuals received Acupuncture as part of their recovery.
In that program, people who received Acupuncture detoxification treatment were two times more likely to continue their rehabilitation therapy than those not getting it. In this same study, more than 70% of people treated with Acupuncture successfully completed detoxification, compared with only 50% of those who did not receive the treatment. For those detoxifying from alcohol only, the success rate was 90%. Recidivism (tendency to relapse) was reduced to only 5%.
A similar blind study of chronic alcoholics in Hennepin County,
Minnesota had far better results among the Acupuncture group. Here,
37% of the treatment group receiving Acupuncture completed the program while only 7.4% of the control group made it.
One person who received Acupuncture as part of his recovery program had this to report: “I have enjoyed what I believe to be reasonable success after 21 sessions within a four-week period with a weekly follow-up of one session per week ever since. My alcoholic compulsion is markedly reduced with the side benefit of elevated vigor and more energy from day to day.
“I literally do not have the compulsion or craving. An occasional
thought of drinking passes by with no pangs or lingering thoughts. I’ve read about a doctor who said that the only necessary proof of
Acupuncture’s worth was the very fact that it worked. Period. It just
works.”

Holistic Lifestyles Radio Show: Holistic Lifestyles Radio and The Couch Live join together in spreading the message of recovery from addictions.

Holistic Lifestyles Radio Show: Holistic Lifestyles Radio and The Couch Live join together in spreading the message of recovery from addictions.

Holistic Lifestyles Radio and The Couch Live join together in spreading the message of recovery from addictions.

Holistic Lifestyles Radio and The Couch Live join together in spreading the message of recovery from addictions. All it took was one brief meeting and several minutes on the air together while both attending the 12 Step Music Fest in November 2009. John Hollis of Holistic Lifestyles Radio invited me, Luis Delgado, CAP, Aka The Dope Doctor, from The Couch Live to join him on his show.

Since then the favor has been returned and now the mutual respect has turned into more. Both John and I know recovery from experience before anything else. We both have also dedicated ourselves to helping those afflicted with the disease of addiction via radio, television, and social media.

Since the primary purpose to spread the message trumps any ego or competitive nature, Holistic Lifestyles Radio has offered to share it’s Blogtalk airwaves to air The Couch Live from 12-1PM Eastern Standard Time every Friday. Although it may originally air at a different time due to technicalities that will be worked out.

The Couch Live will continue to air the show from it’s home base at www.rock100diz.com, while streaming into Blogtalk. Blogtalk is only one of the many outlets in which to listen to the Holistic Lifestyles Radio show.

In addition to sharing time on Holistics’ Blogtalk, you will also see that both www.holisticlifestylesradio.com and www.thedopedoctor.com will publish each others blogs, continue to have each other as guests, and advertise each others shows.

Look for any updates at either site and especially by listening to any of the shows on Blogtalk simply by clicking on the widget seen from either site. You can also follow them via Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites. Help spread the word and be part of the solution. You will never know how great a simple act of sharing can help. But it does. Thanks again to you all, and especially John Hollis for being you brother.

Strange sound in your head? Maybe it sounds like a ringing, buzzing, whirring or worse? You are NOT crazy and you are NOT alone.

Strange sound in your head? Maybe it sounds like a ringing, buzzing, whirring or worse? You are NOT crazy and you are NOT alone. It is call Tinnitus. According to the American Tinnitus Association, more than 50 Million people experience Tinnitus, to some degree, every day. And 12 Million people are actively seeking help for their Tinnitus.

There is no cure, but there is help. Many people report that masking their Tinnitus, by listening to exterior sounds that “cover up” the sound created by their Tinnitus, is a great help. Especially at night, when there are far less ambient sounds to cover up the sounds in their head. A great tool for masking Tinnitus, especially at night, is by using a Sound Pillow.

The Sound Pillow is a comfortable plush pillow with two stereo-speakers buried deep inside the pillow that allows you to comfortably listen to your favorite music, meditation CDs, and nature sounds. Simply plug the Sound Pillow into any standard 1/8” headphone jack, layback, relax and let the sounds flowing from the Sound Pillow put you to sleep.

The Pursuit of Happiness By Carol Harblin

Sometimes in our everyday lives, people find it difficult to see happiness or to crack a smile. They may ask, “How can I be happy when my life is falling apart?”
Life doesn’t actually fall apart but it can change. The “falling apart” we feel is only a change or a vibration that is different from what you are used to. Change is not a bad thing. It’s important not to dwell on thinking about the whole picture and only look at what you can do today, or even tomorrow. We can dream and we can make long term plans but it we have to realize we cannot change anything or anybody except US.

How do we find happiness? Does it come in a flat screen TV? A vacation? A new car? No. Happiness is not bought, it is something that we have nurtured in our souls and in our heart since we were born. Happiness is when we can smile at just being in our own company.
When we finally befriend our true self, we begin to smile more and more because we realize we are NEVER alone as long as we have our self.

Happiness is found in true love, true self, and even laughter among friends and family. Ask yourself this, what would make you happiest – a new car or the embrace of a loved one or a mirthful laugh among friends?

A new car may smell good and make you feel good but it is only a fleeting moment. That new car won’t be new forever and it won’t smell new forever. That newness will wear out. The feeling of love with yourself, friends, and family is a feeling that will enrich your soul and will be kept inside you forever.
Search within yourself, don’t search and find things from outside of yourself.
